DeSantis drops video ahead of expected Twitter campaign announcement

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis released a video on Tuesday ahead of an expected campaign announcement scheduled for Wednesday that will reportedly occur as part of a Twitter conversation with platform owner Elon Musk.

Entitled “America Is Worth the Fight,” the thirty-second ad depicts the governor preparing backstage to address a large crowd before charging out from behind the curtain. In a voiceover, a narrator discusses hope for the future.

“They call it faith because in the face of darkness, you can see that brighter future, a faith that our best days lay ahead of us. But is it worth the fight? Do I have the courage? Is it worth the sacrifice?” the narrator asks.

“America has been worth it every single time,” a second voice affirms.

The video concludes with a prompt for viewers to text “LAUNCH” to a six-digit number.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that DeSantis would participate in a Twitter Space with Musk at 6 p.m. EST on Wednesday, during which he is expected to officially declare his candidacy. 

Polling data has consistently shown the Florida governor to be the most formidable challenger to former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination, though he still trails by 36.9% in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
