James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in all of fiction, and there have only been a few men who have been lucky enough to play the spy. Some actors would do anything and everything to play the character, while others are all too happy to stay away from the role.

Daniel Craig has been the most recent man to play Bond, and he was outstanding as the character. As the franchise looks to replace Craig, the actor has moved on. Sadly, one interviewer did not get the memo, and they wound up having an awkward encounter with the star actor.

Let’s take a look at this awkward moment, and find out if there is someone waiting in the wings to be the next 007!

Daniel Craig Was Sublime While Portraying James Bond

Daniel Craig, the English actor with a steely gaze and a rugged charm, undertook one of the most iconic roles in cinematic history: James Bond. His portrayal of the suave spy marked a turning point in the franchise, garnering both critical acclaim and box office success. From 2006’s Casino Royale to his final appearance in No Time to Die, Craig’s time as 007 was a cinematic journey that redefined the character and set new standards for the spy genre.

Casino Royale was the inception of this new Bond. In this origin story, we saw Bond as a rookie agent, learning the ropes of espionage, and dealing with personal demons. Craig’s portrayal was both bruised and brutal, often engaging in intense physical combat that showcased his commitment to the character.

Daniel Craig’s tenure as James Bond saw a substantial increase in the franchise’s earnings. Casino Royale, his debut Bond film, raked in over $616 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Subsequent films like Skyfall and Spectre continued to shatter box office records, with the former becoming the highest-grossing Bond film of all time, amassing over $1.1 billion globally.

But it wasn’t just about the money. Craig’s Bond movies received critical acclaim, with Rotten Tomatoes scores consistently hovering above 60% and often breaking 90%. His portrayal brought depth and grit to the character, which resonated with both long-time fans and a new generation of Bond enthusiasts.

Eventually, his time as the character came to an end, and in an interview, he made it clear that he was done talking about the franchise.

During the premiere of No Time to Die, Craig was making the rounds and doing interviews. Unfortunately, he encountered one of his least favorite questions: who will be the next James Bond?

According to Cosmopolitan, this is where things got awkward between Craig and the interviewer, who asked the wrong question to the wrong guy.

“But, er, judging by one particular interview with 9News Today, the 53-year-old actor is over being asked about who’s going to replace him as James Bond. “Not my problem,” he answered when probed on who’ll take over the role. As for whether he’d ever return as Bond? “Nope,” he said.

“That ends that one, then,” the site reported.

We’re sure that the interviewer meant well, and was simply doing their job, but this was the wrong question to ask. Previously, Craig had already demonstrated a prickly position on leaving the franchise, and had been vocal about the fact that he wasn’t interested in anything Bond moving forward.

According to the man himself, he was ready to get out of Dodge after one movie.

“I realized the enormity of it, so I said to Barbara, ‘How many more? Three? Four?’ She said, ‘Four!’ ” Craig added. “I said, ‘OK. Then can I kill him off?’ She said, ‘Yes,’” the actor said, per People.

You’d figure that an interviewer would take that to heart and not ask about its future, but here we are.

Speaking of the new Bond, there has been no announcement yet, but there have been some seriously strong contenders.

According to GBNews, “For much of 2023, the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, and James Norton have been amongst the frontrunners and in more recent months, Damson Idris and Harris Dickinson have entered the fray.”

However, there have been some changes to this list.

“Instead, Snowfall’s Damson Idris remains the all-out frontrunner at 2/1 while Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson remains one to watch at 9/4,” the site continued.

In truth, this tells us nothing. Not many people saw Daniel Craig scoring the role after Pierce Brosnan, so perhaps we will she a massive surprise announcement when it comes to the next Bond.

Now that Daniel Craig has laid James to rest, here’s hoping that he does not have to field any more questions about the iconic character. Clearly, he’s over it.
